Paint In Her Hair

Laura Gunn is a remarkable fabric designer. Many of our best selling napkins have been from fabric prints she designed. You might remember (or even have) some of these from the "Lantern Bloom Collection:

Or these, from the "Poppy Collection":

While we were anxiously awaiting the release of Laura Gunn's next collection, I found her blog "Paint in My Hair", and was delighted to discover that she is first and foremost a painter. It was so enjoyable to see some of the original art that was the inspiration for much of her fabric design.

Chinese Lantern in Gold

Red Poppy

and more recently...

Blue Magnolias

Which brings us to her most recent collection of fabric which has just arrived at Picking Daisies... "Magnolia Lane". Won't these be perfect for spring?

But just when we thought we were moving forward into this new collection, we stumbled across a picture of bedding created using fabrics from her older collections. I thought that I might just take a break from sewing napkins and sew myself a new bedding set. Can you guess which fabrics we are ordering from this photo?

Yes, all of them! Coming soon to a bedroom near you (nearer to me, though!)

Inspiration: Laura Gunn's blog: Paint in My Hair, Laura Gunn's Fabric Collections, Laura Gunn's Paintings, Laura Gunn's Poppy Patterns, Fabric Manufacturer Michael Miller.

One more gorgeous Laura Gunn painting to leave you with...

February's Table Setting

A table set for a Valentine's Dinner Celebration

The littlest Daisy sister does such a fantastic job of changing the table decor and theme each month, and I am determined to share the photos and inspiration with you for each new table setting.

But the first thing I have learned is that it is quite hard to get a great photo of a set table in it's entirety. Neither stepping back from it or towering over the top quite captures it's loveliness.

Though close up detail shots are quite nice.

Love the little individual Valentine cards tucked into each of the napkins.

That slice of vanilla cake with pink frosting looks good enough to eat. I'd like to just pull up a chair please.

And, of course, the flowers...

Nothing quite pulls a table setting together like a lovely bouquet of flowers. Those spider mums are the most lovely shade of chartreuse.

Inspiration
: The cotton napkins featured are First Impression in Potpourri, Turn of Events in Plum, Woodcut in Passion, and Loves Me in Grape. Also featured are Linen place mats in Marine, Valentine cards by Tracy Taylor, Felt cake slices by SmarmyPants, Vintage champagne glasses, and Floral Centerpiece by Sprigs.
